History of Rajasthan

The history of Rajasthan can be counted from the era before the birth of Christ. Historians say, that Rajasthan was domiciled long before 2500 BC. It was the northern part of Rajasthan where the Indus Valley Civilization was founded. The main inhabitants of this state were the Bhil and the Mina tribes. They were the most ancient dwellers of this area. Around 1400 BC, the Aryans came to visit this place and then settled in this particular area permanently. As a result the local inhabitants was compelled to move to the south and the east. Later came the Afghans, Turks, Persians and the Mughals, with whom the original inhabitants of this soil fought several times to save their existence.

Along with the wars, the free mixing between two different cultures were also going on, which gave the birth of the Rajputs, the kingly fighter class of the society.Starting from the period of King Harsha, that is in 7 AD, to the period of the formation of the Sultanate in Delhi, Rajasthan was crumbled in several kingdoms rivals to each other. During that particular span of time the Rajputs of these fragmented area were divided into 36 royal clans. From then onwards, Rajasthan faced a long lasting reign of the cultural and vibrant Rajputs. The reign of Rajputs came to an end in the 14th century. Perhaps the notion to pray the sun, the moon and the fire god came in to the vogue during this period. The Brahmin class in Rajasthan was also emerged during this Rajput era.

The history of Rajasthan tells that, the Mughals took over the utter control of this region through the political strategy of Akbar, the great Mughal Emperor. He married Jodha Bai who is from a royal Rajput family. She was the daughter of Maharaja of Amber and a princess as well. the Rajputs where faced military failure and thus turned them from fearsome foes to faithful friends. After this matrimonial alliance, Akbar gave a number of high offices of his administration to many Rajput princes. But, proving the emperor wrong, this strategy could not discourage the power of Rajputs. Later, the empowerment of the British colonial power made it, what Akbar could not.

The history of Rajasthan is actually the history of Rajputs. But, the origin of the Rajputs is quite doubtful. Years after, when India became independent, a total of 23 princely states were combined to form the State of Rajasthan. The privy purses are the important aspects of the history of Rajasthan.
