Narain Niwas Palace

Hotel Narain Niwas Palace is a popular heritage hotel in Rajasthan. It is not just a hotel. It is like the history of Rajasthan coming live in front of those who stay there. Since it is a luxury hotel, it is generally visited by foreign tourists and Indian travelers with high budget. Hotel Narain Niwas Palace is located at the heart of the city of Jaipur, which is famous all over the world as the ‘Pink City of India’. General Amar Singh Ji who was then the Thakur of Kanota had built this palace in the 19th century. This palace was designed in the Anglo-Indian style of architecture which was quite popular in the Victorian era.

Later, after the independence of India, Narain Niwas Palace was converted into a heritage hotel, thus, contributing to the developing tourism industry in Rajasthan. Even though it is a very old palace, after becoming a hotel it has been furnished with all the amenities of the modern world. Those who stay at this hotel enjoy an exclusive retreat with the warmth of traditional Rajput hospitality at its best. The whole palace hotel is furnished in Rajasthani style and decorated with Rajput flourishing. The walls of this heritage hotel are painted in bright and bold colors which are a tradition in Jaipur. In 1928, when General Amar Singh built Narain Niwas Palace, he was a Confidant of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh and also the Commander of the Jaipur State Force. Before staying in this beautiful luxury heritage hotel it is important to know about the person who had built it. General Amar Singh was Thakur Zorawar Singh’s grandson. Thakur Zorawar Singh was the founder of the Kanota family.

The construction of Narain Niwas Palace was supervised by Thakur Sivnath Singh, who was the brother of General Amar Singh. Narain Niwas Palace is actually named after their father Thakur Narain Singh. He was a minister in the princely State of Alwar which was adjacent to Jaipur. Thakur Narain Singh was also the Chief of Police in Jaipur State.

Narain Niwas Palace was the country residence of General Amar Singh. Whenever the general wished to retreat from his busy court and administrative life in the city he would come to Narain Niwas Palace, even though he had a very cozy life at his family’s Haveli in Jaipur. It was a trend among the noblemen of old Jaipur State to build their ‘garden house’ near Rambagh. General Amar Singh did the same with Narain Niwas Palace. Rambagh is the pleasure garden of Maharaja Ram Singh (1835-1880) who began its construction in the 19th century.
